The definition
A research-use-only (RUO) product is supplied for laboratory research. It is not intended for use in humans or animals, for diagnosis, or for any therapeutic purpose. RUO products have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA for any of those uses.
What labels say
RUO products carry a clear statement on the label and in their documentation, such as: "For laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use." The label identifies the compound, strength and lot number, and it carries no directions for use.
Who can buy
RUO suppliers sell to businesses and institutions that conduct or support laboratory research. PepDistro reviews every account application, verifies the business, and asks buyers to confirm research use at checkout. We decline orders that indicate human or veterinary use.
What an RUO supplier won't provide
Because RUO products aren't intended for administration, a compliant supplier doesn't publish dosing, usage or preparation instructions, and doesn't make claims about effects in people or animals. That isn't evasiveness. Providing those things would contradict the product's research-only status.
